Where these lines come from

True “Experience is the teacher of all things.” Caesar, Civil War 2.8.3: ut est rerum omnium magister usus, “as experience is the master of all things”. It is an aside in his account of the siege works at Massilia, where the soldiers learned by trial how to build a brick tower, not a free-standing maxim. Latin text

True as reported. “I came, I saw, I conquered” (veni, vidi, vici). Suetonius, Life of Julius Caesar 37, says the words were carried on a tablet in his Pontic triumph after the battle of Zela (47 BC); Plutarch, Caesar 50, says he wrote them in a letter to a friend in Rome.
